South Salem High Schoolers Place 6th in National Culinary Competition!

Congratulations to the Culinary Arts team from South Salem High School for their performance in last week's National ProStart Competition! After winning the state competition in February, the team placed 6th in the country out of 48 teams. Kudos to Chef Todd Wieweck for his leadership and expertise, and to the student chefs who impressed us all. :)

Happy Doc Family Medicine is a proud sponsor of the team. We offered a double matching grant in the lead-up to their trip to Anaheim, California for the competition. For every dollar donated to the culinary program, we matched the donation and also sent an equal donation to Calcutta Kids, an organization that provides health care to children in Calcutta, India. Many thanks to the individuals and businesses who contributed. Not only did we reach our fundraising goal, we beat it by 50%!

Congrats to the 1,300 Monster Cookie Riders!

Last Sunday I biked 65 miles for the Monster Cookie Ride - it was awesome! I'd never ridden so far before, or in any kind of organized bike ride. Seeing 1,300 cyclists on the roads was inspiring and made the miles pass that much easier. We had beautiful views of the mountains, vineyards, nurseries, grasslands. I feel so fortunate to be able to live and bike in the Willamette Valley. See more photos from this Statesman Journal article. Congrats to everyone who made it out for the event! Hope to repeat it next year.
